All About Me: Letter D
This post is brought to you by the letter D … here’s a little peek at me and what makes me … umm, me. This weekly series is
“All About Me: from A to Z.” Check out my inaugural post if you want to know more about why I’m doing this!
Denmark: If you asked me five years ago if I would ever work for a Danish company, I’d tell you “no way.” Yet, I do. In a weird turn of events, I left my last newspaper job and went to work for CCI Europe a Danish, company that makes software for newspapers. With that, I’ve been to Denmark a ton over the course of the last four years. I’ve endured Danish winters (I’m a West Coast girl, which means lots of sunshine, a propensity for flip-flops and intolerance for cold weather).
The little town, is south-eastern Poland, where
my family is from (photo taken by a distant cousin).
DeMucha: My maiden name is DeMucha. In Polish DeMucha mean “the fly” like the pesky little insect; and the “c” is silent, making it sound like “De-Moo-Ha.” My great-grandparents emigrated from Poland and settled in a Polish neighborhood of Chicago. My Grandpa and his brother spoke Polish as children and attended a Polish-Catholic school. When my Great-Grandpa Frank passed away, my Great-Grandma and her boys stopped using Polish at home, which means my Dad never learned to speak Polish. When the whole DeMucha crew moved west to California my Great-Grandma opened a dinner in the Glendale-Pasadena area, where my brothers could go visit her, sit at the counter and get treats. I was just 2 when my Great-Grandma passed away, but we share the same middle name (as does my daughter), I’ve always felt a deep sense of connection to her and Poland.
Donuts: I’ve never been a donut eater, but lately I have been craving donuts. I especially like the maple glazed ones. The gas station convenience store near out house has fresh and yummy donuts every day … and they have become a favorite of our family. Coop can’t be anywhere a donut without getting his little paws on them; he knows exactly what the donut box looks like and he goes nut when he sees it. If you wait too long to give him his donut, he’ll throw a major fit.
