{DIY} Yummy Whipped Grapefruit Body Body

DIY Beauty| Grapefuit Whipped Body Butter | Kimberly Kalil Designs

Another week and my obsession for DIY beauty products hasn’t waned. Back in December tried to make whipped body butter and failed. It was a hot mess. For starters, it smelled horrible: we added way too many different scents in attempt to mask the yucky smell of the lotion base and it turned sour. Then, I never managed to make the lotion whipped. All the ingredients were mixed together, but it wasn’t fluffy and whipped like I wanted it to be.

Last week I decided to try making whipped body butter again. And guess what? It turned out AWESOME. I love it.

The key: ditch the hand mixer and use a stand mixer. With the stand mixer, you can put the mixer on high and leave it to “whip” away for a good 15 minutes. We used a hand mixer for the failed batch and after about 5 minutes of mixing we gave up, assuming the mixture was never going to whip.

      WHIPPED BODY BUTTER RECIPE

      1/2 cup coconut oil

      1/2 cup shea butter

4 oz of any carrier oil that is liquid at room temp (olive, jojoba, sweet almond, etc)

About 30-40 drops of essential oils of your choice

Melt the coconut oil and Shea butter together completely until they’re liquefied. You can do this in a microwave or on a stovetop over low heat. Pour the mixture into a stainless steel bowl and let it cool and solidify a bit. Once it’s about the consistency of butter it’s time to start whipping it. Whip in with the mixer until it is light and fluffy like cake icing, this should take a few minutes. Add the carrier and essential oils as it is whipping. Then, here’s the key: let it whip. I left my mixer whipping for a good 15 minutes. When I came back, it was light and fluffy, exactly they way I wanted it to be.

Use a spatula to fill your containers with your yummy whipped butter. I used some cute, 4-ounce mason jars I found at Hobby Lobby. They are the perfect size and the mouth of the jar is big enough to get your hands in to scoop up some body butter.

Next week I’m going to try bath bombs and possibly some lotion bars. Stay tuned for my DIY beauty goodness. Also, take a few moments to head o
